MoYu RS3M V5 Versions Explained: Which One Should You Buy?

The RS3M V5 name covers four quite different buys. The useful question is simple: do you want an affordable first cube, more room to adjust it, or the full Ball-Core setup?
My pick? Dual Adjustment for value.
For a first speed cube, I’d choose the Dual Adjustment version. It adds a nine-level spring-compression dial to the basic magnetic design, giving you room to experiment without jumping straight to the top model.
If you already know you want core magnets and a glossy finish, go straight to the Ball-Core UV.
Tensioning
Springs or repelling magnets under the centres.
Core magnets
A separate magnetic connection between core and corners.
Surface finish
Frosted or glossy UV coating on the outside.
What changes between the versions?
| Version | Tensioning and adjustment | Core magnets | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Magnetic | Springs; centre-screw adjustment | No | Frosted |
| Dual Adjustment | Springs; centre screw + nine-level compression | No | Frosted |
| MagLev | Repelling magnets replace springs; centre screw + nine-level compression | No | Frosted |
| Ball-Core UV | MagLev; centre screw + nine-level compression | 8-magnet ball core | UV coated |
All four are magnetic 3x3 cubes. “Ball-Core” adds a magnetic connection between the core and corners; it does not mean the other versions are non-magnetic. The Ball-Core V5 also uses MagLev.
Keep it simpleRS3M V5 Standard
The entry point in the range. Choose it when keeping the cost down matters more than having a separate compression dial.

My value pickRS3M V5 Dual Adjustment
The extra compression adjustment is the reason I’d spend a little more here. Start with the factory settings, then explore the dial as you learn what you like.

For a spring-free setupRS3M V5 MagLev
Repelling magnets replace the tensioning springs. This is the middle option if you want MagLev and prefer a frosted surface.

The full V5 packageRS3M V5 Ball-Core UV
MagLev, an 8-magnet ball core and a glossy UV coating. My choice for someone who wants those upgrades together rather than buying another V5 later.

The centre screw changes how far a centre can move from the core. The compression setting changes the restoring force as pieces move apart during a turn. They work together, but they are not the same adjustment.
Try the factory setup first. If you change it, move one setting at a time and keep all six centres consistent. For the numbered compression system, follow the reset direction in the supplied manual rather than forcing the dial backwards.
What about the accessories?
The cube, tuning tools and storage bundle depend on the version and product option. Some V5 packages include MoYu’s robot-style display case. It is a holder, not a robot that solves the cube. Check the selected listing for the included case and extras.

A couple of useful answers
Does MagLev mean stronger turning magnets?
No. MagLev describes the tensioning system under the centres. It is separate from the magnets that help align the layers.
Is UV coating worth it?
I’d choose it if you prefer a glossy surface. It changes the outer finish, not the tensioning system. On this V5 range, it comes with the Ball-Core model.
